He retired as a Welder at Newport News Shipbuilding Company.
He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, five daughters, Louise Bush (Larry) of Columbus, GA, Benita Butts (Wayne) and Rachel Worrell of Suffolk, Victoria Worrell (Frank) of Portsmouth, and Andrea McLaurin (Donte) of Smithfield; two sisters, Geneva Butts Hall of Suffolk and Denise Johnson of Newark, NJ; three brothers, Jimmy Butts, Jr. (Keisha) of Suffolk; Donald Butts (Ellen) and Rudy Johnson of Newark, NJ; 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mary Belfield of Suffolk and Emma Jean Beale of Brooklyn, NY; one brother-in-law, William McCray (Janet) of Smithfield; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The family extends a special thanks to the City of Portsmouth Fire and Rescue Department for their assistance.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Crocker Funeral Home by Bishop Madison G. Copeland. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will be at 511 Main Street, Portsmouth.
