Agnes Ophelia Hargrave, 85, went to be with the Lord on October 24, 2008. Ophelia was born on October 6, 1923 to Richard and Arrie E. Hunt in Suffolk, Virginia.
After 40 years of service, she retired from Planter Peanuts, a Division of Standard Brand. She was a member of Local 26 Retirees Club, where she served as secretary and enjoyed traveling with them on many trips across the country. Ophelia was a faithful member of Tabernacle Christian Church for over 50 years. Most recently, she served as secretary of the Senior Usher Board. During her membership, she also served on Tabernacle's Shepards Center Kitchen Ministry, Operation Blessing Ministry and the #2 Choir. Ophelia was also a member of the North Carolina Chapter of the United Order of Tents 418 and the Hollywood¬¬-Jericho Neighborhood Civic League.
Ophelia was predeceased by her husband, Earnest H. Hargrave Sr., daughter, Arrie Etta Ransom, sons, Earnest H. Hargrave Jr. and Michael Keith Hargrave, sisters, Ida V. Jones and Betty L. Noel, and brothers, Richard, Charlie and David Hunt. Ophelia was devoted to her family and friends.
She leaves countless loved ones to praise God and celebrate her life of service: daughters, Thelma A. (Stanley) Hardy and Vanessa (James) Monette; daughter-in-law,•• Chonita J. Hargrave; brother, Joseph Carlton Hunt Sr.; sisters, Doris Hunt Johnson, Zenobia Bryant, Barbara Beale and Charlotte Bates; and sister-in-law, Irene H. Cromwell; 14 grand children, 18 great-grand children, 11 great-great-grand children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends, including devoted family friend Shirley M. Cross.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, October 29th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Crocker Funeral Home. Ophelia's Celebration Service will be held on Thursday, October 30th at 11:00 a.m at Tabernacle Christian Church, Rev. Dr. Carlton Upton, officiating. Interment will be in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. The family will assemble at Crocker Funeral Home Thursday at 10:15 a.m. for the procession to the church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Tabernacle Church Operation Fund.
