SUFFOLK - Charlie Manley, Jr., 57, of 2313 Manning Road, Suffolk, passed away at Sentara Obici Hospital Friday, March 28, 2003. He was a native of Nansemond County and was son of the late Charlie Manley, Sr. and Susie Edmonds Manley.
He was employed by Estes Trucking Company for 16 years. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church where he was the lead singer in the Male Choir and also sang in the Senior Choir.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Gladys Whitehead Adams Manley; a son, Charles Manley of Suffolk; two stepsons and their spouses, Joseph and Tanisha Whitehead of Portsmouth and Sgt. Brian and Sgt. J'miese Adams of Brussels, Belgium; a stepdaughter and her spouse, Cynthia Whitehead and Robert Drayton; two sisters, Emma Johnson (Wesley) and Lucy Spellman of Hattonsville, MD; two brothers, Luke Manley of Baltimore, MD and Quinton Edmond (Linda) of Suffolk; seven step-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Mary Francis Whitehead of Suffolk; three sisters-in-law, Linnie Parker, Rendy Scales, and Beverly Whitehead Green, all of Suffolk; two brothers-in-law, Joseph Roberts of Suffolk and Timothy Whitehead of Houston, Texas; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church, officiated by The Rev. J. J. Ferguson. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 12:30 p.m. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
