CLYDE WALLACE CHAPMAN, SR.

SUFFOLK - Clyde Wallace Chapman, Sr., 85, of the four hundred block of South Sixth Street, Suffolk, passed away July 21, 2009 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Nansemond County and son of the late Moses and Mary Elizabeth Small Chapman. He was also preceded on the journey home by his daughter Doris Chapman; son, Clyde W. Chapman, Jr.; two sisters, Hazel Robertson and Catherine Roberts and three brothers, Robert Chapman, Otis Chapman and Louis Chapman. Mr. Chapman attended Andrew J. Brown School.
He was an Army veteran and was a retired 1st class painter at NORSHIPCO after 25 years. He was a member of St. Mark Deliverance Center of Portsmouth and was Father of the Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Daisy R. Chapman; two daughters, Betty Gilchrist and Dorothy Chapman of Suffolk; one son, James Otis Chapman of Suffolk; two sisters, Georgia Mae Chapman of Massachusetts and Rita Ann Taylor of Norfolk; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Chapman and Helen Nichols (George) of Suffolk; 9 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
A service to celebrate his life and homegoing will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 17, 2009 at New Mount Joy Food for Living Ministries, Inc., officiated by Overseer James Freeman. Interment will be in the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
