Mrs. Hamlin loved her churches: Gilfield Baptist Church, Ivor, VA; Elmwood Presbyterian Church, East Orange, NJ; Metropolitan Baptist Church, Newark, NJ., where she sang in the church choirs and taught Sunday School.
Ethel’s hobbies included: making hats, jewelry-enameling, beads, crocheting, baking cookie houses, sweet potato pies, pound cakes, creating scrap books and collecting lots of things – lots! She retired from the East Orange Board of Education as a cook.
Surviving to cherish her memory, one daughter, Virginia A. Hamlin Nelson (Vernon) of Milton, Mass.; two grandchildren, Elimu Nelson of Los Angeles, California; and Bassell Nelson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Gilfield Baptist Church, Ivor, VA, Thursday, August 14, 2008, 1:00 p.m. by Rev. Kenneth Ricks and Rev. Eustice Mitchell. Interment will be at Gilfield Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk, VA on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 during the hours of 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge.
