SUFFOLK - Edith Marie Smith of 1233 Exchange Road passed away on Monday April 7, 2008 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was born September 19, 1938 to the late John E. Walker, Sr. and Sarah Hall Walker in Nansemond County. She was predeceased by a sister, Annie Bell Bates.

She was a member of Healing Chapel Baptist Church. She was a domestic worker for Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Naismith for many years.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Mr. Willie E. Smith of Brooklyn, NY; loving and devoted daughter, Vanessa D. Walker; brother, John E. (Beverly) Walker, Jr. of Portsmouth; sisters, Mildred (Ernest) Waters and Peggy (Melvin) Bradshaw of Suffolk; grandchildren, Doressa (David) Warren, Curette (Déé Shon) Williams, Trenton Holliman, Sr. of Suffolk, and Curtis Lee Holliman, Jr. of Texas; great grandchildren, Dressia Waldo, Adante Holliman, Trenton Lovell Holliman, Jr., Tranaisha Holliman, Davinah Warren, Demetrias Warren, and Tommy Thurber.

She is also survived by her aunts, Annie Green and Pearline Walker of Suffolk; uncles, Roosevelt (Dorothy) Walker and David Whitaker of Suffolk; devoted nieces, Tillie Watson Orris Waters, Sandra Jordan, Latilda Carter, and Paula Towns; devoted cousins, Barbara Little and Lealer Manley, and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Funeral services will be rendered on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 12:00 noon at Healing Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Morris Allmond, Sr., Pastor officiating. Interment will be in the Jackson-Hall Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday. Arrangements entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home.
