FLETCHER SKEETER SAUNDERS

SUFFOLK - Fletcher Skeeter Saunders of the 2400 block of Skeetertown Road, departed this life Aug. 6, 2008, at her residence. A native of Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the late Ikey and Mollie Gill Skeeter. Two sisters, Almetia Addison and Ellner Skeeter, and three brothers, Derwood Skeeter, Lorenza I. Skeeter and Monroe Addison, predeceased her.
Mrs. Saunders was a member of Mount Ararat Christian Church, where she served as a deaconess and was a former member of the Women's Fellowship Ministry, Senior Choir and Usher Ministry. She was also an active member and held office in the Mount Ararat Missionary Lodge No. 1.
She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband of 62 years, John C. Saunders Sr.; one daughter, Betty A. Watson of Suffolk; three sons, John C. Saunders Jr. (Shelley) of Chesapeake, Percy R. Saunders (Charlene) and Warner D. Saunders (Andrea), both of Suffolk; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Doretha Milteer (Eugene) of Suffolk, Dora Lockett (Charles) of Washington, D.C., and Marjorie Witcher of Upper Marlboro, Md.; a brother, Aubrey Skeeter (Lorraine) of Suffolk; one sister-in-law, Barbara Black (Robert) of Virginia Beach; two brothers-in-law, James P. Saunders and Leon Saunders, both of Suffolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be held at noon Saturday (August 9, 2008) in Mount Ararat Christian Church with Dr. H.H. Murrill presiding. Interment will be in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is in charge.
