Following his graduation from Dewitt Clinton High School, he began his career as an electrician with AFLCIO Local #3 in New York, New York. After 21 years of service, he retired in 1980. He was baptized at the St. Charles Catholic Church.
Gerald loved gardening, laughing, being with his family, having fun with friends and reading. Gerald touched the lives of many people with his smile, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.
Gerald is survived by sisters, Katherine Sears (Cyrus) of Suffolk, VA and Ruth Green of Barbados, West Indies. He was preceded in death by sister Marion Martin, and six brothers Calvin, Charles, James (Jimmy), Randolph, Russell, and Archie and son Gordon Codrington. He also leaves to cherish his memory sons Victor Codrington (Rosita) of Freeport, NY, Joseph Codrington of Bronx, NY and Domingo Codrington of Albany, NY, nephew Corey (Karen) Weaver of Bellville, NC, 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 7, 2009 at Crocker Funeral Home, officiated by Bishop Madison G. Copeland. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
