Suffolk - Gladys M. Sawyer of 550 Third Avenue, Suffolk. VA died Friday, October 24, 2008 at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, She was a native of Nansemond County. Mrs. Sawyer was the daughter of the late Paul C. and Margaret Elizabeth Whitfield. She was predeceased by two brothers, Calvin Whitfield and James Robert Whitfield.

She leaves to cherish precious memories her husband, David L. Sawyer; a son, Windal Sawyer . (Katie) of Suffolk; three grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Whitfield Baker (Vernon) of Suffolk; three brothers Earnest Whitfield, Howard Whitfield and David Whitfield all of Suffolk; seven sisters-in-law, Florine Skeeter, Thelma Ashe, Evelma Britt, Laura White, Jeanette Hopson, Geardine Fulgham and Mary Lee Twine; two brothers-in-law, Horace Sawyer and James Sawyer; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives.

The funeral service will be held at 1 :00 p.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Rising St. James PHC with Bishop Dwight Whitfield officiating. Interment will be at Carver Memorial Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
