WINDSOR - Herbert Lee Newby, 54, of the 100 block of Marlette Street, Windsor, passed away March 5, 2008 at his residence. He was a native of Isle of Wight County and the son of the late Gerald Newby, Sr. and Elizabeth Butler Newby.

He was employed for 35 years as a Ventilator for Northrop Grumman Newport News Shipbuilding Company. He was a member of New Branch Baptist Church, Ivor, where he served as an usher.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Patricia F. Newby of the home; one daughter, Christie Lane (Thaddeus) of Surry; two sisters, Barbara Newby of Surry and Willett Cubby (Vernon) of Yorktown; six brothers, Gerald Newby, Jr. (Audrey) of Smithfield, Lee Andrew Newby (Carolyn) of Churchland, Roger Newby (Doreen) of Ivor, Columbus Newby (Shirley Ann) of Surry, Jackie Newby, Sr. (Lucy) of Zuni, and Jerome Newby (Brenda) of Smithfield; three grandchildren; mother-in-law, Tinnile King (Arthur) of Ivor; seven sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law; devoted friend, Hollis Boone of Newport News; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008 at New Branch Baptist Church, 8140 Proctors Bridge Road, Ivor, and will be conducted by The Rev. Frank L. Aikens, Pastor. Interment will be in the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery, Ivor. Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk, is handling arrangements.
