SUFFOLK - James H. Bailey, 85 of 936 Portsmouth Blvd., Suffolk died Sunday, July 5, 2009 in Carrington Place of Chesapeake in Chesapeake, VA. He was a native of Southampton County and the son of the late Hugh Thomas Bailey and Viania M. Bailey. He was also predeceased by his wife, Christine Bailey.

He was a former member of St. Paul R.Z.U.A. He retired from Norfolk Naval Supply Center.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Laura Brooks (William) and Huberta Speller (Carey); two sons, Abraham Gatling (Deloris) and William Bailey (Catherine); eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; six sisters, Mildred Lee, Arethea Carpenter, Louvenia Scott, Charlotte Boyd, Helen Bailey, and Linda Johnson; two brothers, Lewis Bailey and Charlie Bailey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Crocker Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Lemuel Greene. Interment will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at 936 Portsmouth Blvd. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements.
