IVOR - Johnnie Leroy Eley, Sr., 79, of 36105 Broadwater Road, Ivor, Va. passed away January 23, 2008 in Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Surry County and the son of the late, Timothy and Girlie Eley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Lovely Eley.

Mr. Eley retired from Smithfield Packing Plant in 1973 after 35 years of service . He was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, of Ivor.

He leaves to treasure his memory: his two daughters, Christine Eley and Deborah Eley, both of Ivor; two sons, Johnnie L. Eley, Jr. (Shirley) of Prince George and Dewitt P. Eley (Elaine) of Wakefield; one sister, Cotelia Newby of Carrollton; two brothers, Timothy Eley, Sr. of Windsor and James Eley of Ivor; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law, Irene Diggs, Ethel Eley, and Alice Blow; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 28, 2008 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 14165 Racetrack Rd., Ivor, with the Rev. William T. Smith, officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 12:00 Noon. Interment will be in Mt. Moriah A.M.E. Church Cemetery on Hwy 16 in Surry. The family will receive friends at the home of Christine Eley, 11047 New Rd., Ivor. Crocker Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
