SUFFOLK - John Raymond Kindred, 88, of the 1100 block of Truman Road, Suffolk, passed away December 5, 2008 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was a native of Franklin and was the son of the late James and Lucy Sharpe Kindred. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Audrey Burks.

Mr. Kindred was an Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Planters Peanut Company. He was a member of East End Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Annie W. Kindred; a step daughter, Frances Everette Gayther (Christopher) of Suffolk; two sisters, Lucy Ashburn (Myrick) and Emma Buck of Franklin; one brother, Wilbert Kindred of West Palm Beach, FL; six grandchildren, James Staton, Leona B. Eure (George), Tyrone Burks (Cheryl), Lenora B. Lewis (Alphonso) and Quinn Burks, all of Suffolk and Keith Burks of Woodbridge; several great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at Noon Thursday, December 11, 2008 at East End Baptist Church, officiated by the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Mark A. Croston, Sr. Interment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
