James William Boone, Jr., "Big Boone", of the 300 block Smith Street, Suffolk, entered into eternal rest and peace on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Sentara Obici Hospital. A native of Nansemond County, he was the son of the late James W. and Mary Jane Boone.

He was a 1974 graduate of Suffolk High School and attended St. Paul’s College. He retired from Smithfield Packing Company due to illness.

He leaves to cherish his memory, one brother, Timothy O. Boone (Cheryl) of Newport News; a devoted aunt, Delma B. Lassiter, Suffolk; one sister, Faye D. Sears, Suffolk; three uncles, Joseph Boone (Maybell) and Robert Boone (Judy), both of Suffolk; Henry Brodie (Hazel) of Society Hill, SC; one niece, Tempestt D. Boone of Newport News; four nephews, Dennis E. Boone (Mayumi) of Japan, Demontre S. Boone, Timothy O. Boone, Jr. and Aaron J. Boone, all of Newport News; one great-niece, Demetria Imani Hinton; and many loving cousins and friends.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. Services will be officiated by Rev. Steven G. Blunt, pastor, First Baptist Church, Mahan Street, Suffolk. Interment will be private. The family will be at the home of MS. Delma Lassiter, 303 Smith Street, Suffolk.
