Lucille Harris Barnes was born to the late Richmond and Bettie Hargrave Harris on September 6, 1919 in Ivor, Southampton County, Virginia In obedience to our heavenly Father, she peacefully responded to the Master’s call to come home on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Suffolk, Virginia.
Lucille accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age, and steadily grew in His grace throughout her life. In her early age she attended the Suffolk School System.
She was married to the late Hurburt H. Barnes and lived in Nyack, New York for many years. In 1990, she relocated to the Suffolk area at 100 Burnett’’s Court. She joined the Healing Chapel Baptist Church in Suffolk, Virginia, and remained a faithful member until death.
Lucille was a "Gracious Lady" who enjoyed being active. She loved to travel and attend various events in the church and community. One of her favorites was having breakfast at Hardee’s with her friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory one niece, Madeline Gatling of Bronx, New York; four nephews, Vernon Riddick (Barbara) and Melvin Gatling (Tonya) of Bronx, New York, Lavalle Gatling (Diane) of Columbia, South Carolina, and Robert Lee Harris (Diane) of Rockville, North Carolina; a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Healing Chapel Baptist Church, Suffolk, conducted by The Rev. Morris Allmond. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
