Larry W. Vann, 58, of 4509 West Norfolk Road, Portsmouth, VA was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at his residence. He was a native of Norfolk County, VA and the son of the late Raleigh and Catherine Hall Vann. Mr. Vann was the widower of the late Vanessa A. Vann.
Larry was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, class of 1969. He served in the Army from 1969-1972 during the Vietnam War and later in the Army Reserve. He was a shipfitter/machinist for 25 years at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where he retired in 2002.
Hr leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Queen Riddick; a daughter, Kimberly Vann Haynes (Eric) of Portsmouth, VA; one son, LaRon Vann (Kimberly) of Portsmouth; four sisters, Claretta Hargraves, Willamae Beale, Beatrice Turner and Elizabeth Deering all of Norfolk; five grandchildren, Sariyah Vann, Destiny, KaRon, Eric, Jr. and Erica Haynes; father-in-law, Samuel Almond of Suffolk; two sisters-in-law, Jacqueline A. Hicks of Suffolk and Vanester Rountree of Waterbury, CT; four brothers-in-law, George, Randy and Raymond McDonald of Waterbury, CT and Joe Lewis McDonald of Charlotte, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009 at St. Timothy Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Thomas E. Harden, Jr. pastor. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will be at 225 North Division Street, Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements.
