Mrs. Gatling attended Nansemond County Training School and was retired from Continental Telephone Company (now Verizon). She was a member of Stoney Branch Missionary Baptist Church where she was a Missionary.
She leaves to mourn her loss and cherish her memory: one daughter, Sylvia Morings of Suffolk; three sons, Lindsey Morings (Seminar) of Suffolk, Melvin Morings (Christine) and Ray Morings (Louise) of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Robert, Wanda, Lindsey, Shannon, Jamie, Ikisha and Sherod; five great grandchildren, Kimberly, Deonte, Daylah, Amarion and Zyrin; six sisters, Ruth Edwards, Alice Morings, Gladys Benton and Mary Johnson (John) of Suffolk, Irene Gatling of Jersey City, NJ and Luella Fitzhugh (John) of Irvington, NJ; one brother, Grafton Gatling of Jersey City, NJ; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Stoney Branch Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. J. J. Ferguson. The Rev. Bryan Johnson is Pastor. Interment will be in the Gatling Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Crocker Funeral Home. The family will be at the home of her daughter at 2017 Smalleys Dam Circle (Christiana Landing), Suffolk.
