SUFFOLK – Rosa Bell Dancy of 6849 Quaker Drive, Suffolk, entered into eternal rest and peace on July 9, 2008 at Sentara Obici Hospital. A native of Colerain, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Bud Sessoms and the widow of Tommy Lee Dancy. She was also preceded in death by a son, Willie Lee Sessoms; a sister, Ella Gatling; three brothers, James Sessoms, Joe Sessoms, and Willie Sessoms; and a devoted friend, Columbus Deloatch.
She was retired from domestic work. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and was a member of the Women’s Fellowship, Pastors Aid, and Sunday school.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two stepdaughters, Mary Virginia Pettit (Edward) and Barbara Deloatch of Baltimore, MD; a son, John Earl Deloatch (Evon) of Suffolk; two sisters, Lula M. Artis and Mary L. Riddick of Suffolk; a brother, Johnnie Sessoms of Suffolk; three devoted grandchildren, Virginia Martin, Wilbert Powell, Jr., and Willie Powell; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Zion United Church of Christ, 5200 Quaker Drive, and will be officiated by the Rev. Jesse H. Lassiter. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at the residence. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
