Ms. Ruth E. Whitfield, 67, of 1015 Nansemond Pkwy, Suffolk, passed away December 18, 2007 in her residence. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late Margaret E. and Oscar Whitfield. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret E. Wright.

Ms. Whitfield was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She attended Norfolk State College (University) where she received her degree in Home Economics and she later became self-employed as a seamstress. She was a member of Rising St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was an usher and a faithful member of her Sunday School class .

Those left to cherish her memory include her nephews, Timothy R. Wright, Fred Wright (Marie) and Reginald Wright, Sr. (Lisa); nieces, Carolyn Wright and Cynthia Boone (Edward); great nephews, Colin Wright, Reginald Wright, Jr., Darius Riddick and Trevon Riddick; great nieces, Shannon Wright, Courtney Wright and Alicia Wright; cousins, Elder Felton Whitfield and Bishop Dwight Whitfield; uncle, Linwood Smallwood; step-sister, Virginia Whitfield and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Crocker Funeral Home by Pastor Pernell Lester. Burial will be private.
