REBECCA L. PHILLIPS-JOHNSON 

 

SUFFOLK - Rebecca L. Phillips-Johnson, 91, of 4421 Marlin Avenue, Suffolk, passed away April 26, 2008 in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth. She was a native of Nansemond County and daughter of the late Elijah Jordan and Annie Burt Baker.

She attended the Isle of Wight Public schools and retired from Planters Nut and Chocolate Company in 1950 after 15 years of service. She was a member of New Mount Joy Food for Living Ministries, Inc. where she was former Mother’s Board President, a faithful member of Sunday School Class 8 taught by Bishop Wiggins, a member of the Pastor’s Aide and Willing Workers. She was also a volunteer for the Senior Companion Program.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Mary C. Johnson and Ruth Johnson Brickhouse, both of Suffolk; five sons, Robert L. Phillips, Sr. (Doris) of Chesapeake, Wilmer Phillips, Jr. (Linda) of Accomack County, Joseph L. Johnson of Suffolk, Miles H. Johnson, Jr. of Hampton, and Wesley T. Johnson of Suffolk; one sister, Dorothy Eley of Suffolk; 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, May 3, 2008 at New Mount Joy Food for Living Ministries, Inc., officiated by Bishop William P. Wiggins, Sr., Pastor. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 10:30 a.m. The family will be at 4421 Marlin Avenue.
