SUFFOLK - Susie P. Joyner of 2068 Nansemond Parkway, passed away June 25, 2009 at her residence. A native of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Ellis and Mary E. Price Powers and the widow of Robert D. Joyner, Sr. Mrs.

Joyner was the owner of Joyner’s Motel and had previously been employed at the Norfolk Naval Base and as a Nursing Assistant at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a member of New First Baptist Church, Hosier Road.

She leaves lasting and loving memories to her sons, Robert D. Joyner, Jr. (Paige) and Curtis Joyner (Kimatha) of Suffolk; three grandchildren and nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, July 3, 2009 at Crocker Funeral Home, 900 E. Washington Street, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Lemuel Greene. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
