Vanessa A. Vann, 54, of 4509 West Norfolk Road, Portsmouth, was called to her heavenly home on Monday, February 4, 2008 in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of Samuel Almond and the late Catherine E. Almond.

Vanessa was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, Class of 1971. She was a childcare provider for many years before her health failed. She was a former member of St. Timothy Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her father, Samuel Almond of Suffolk, VA; her loving and dedicated husband of 37 years, Larry W. Vann, her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly M. Vann-Haynes (Eric) of Portsmouth, VA, her loving son and daughter-in-law, LaRon M. Vann (Kimberly) of Chesterfield, VA; two sisters, Jacqueline A. Hicks of Suffolk, VA and Vanester Rountree of Waterbury, CT; four brothers, George, Randy and Raymond McDonald all of Waterbury, CT and Joe Lewis McDonald of Charlotte, N.C. , five grandchildren, Destiny, KaRon, Sariyah, Eric, Jr. and a new blessing, to be born on 8/21/08, a special niece, Jada A. Hicks, a special nephew, Andrae David Hicks, II (A.J.), Grandmother, Ernestine R. Langston, Grandfather, James Faulcon; 10 aunts, special cousins, Gloria Richardson, Theresa Brooks, Nathaniel Ashe, Andrew Ashe and Loretta Blount, special friends, Cynthia Jenkins, Charles and Adelphia Speight, Brenda and William Hatton and other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2008 at St. Timothy Baptist Church, 1613 E. Washington Street, Suffolk, with the Rev. Thomas E. Harden, Jr., officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be held in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Jacqueline A. Hicks, 1218 Baltic St. Suffolk and 4509 W. Norfolk Road, Portsmouth. Crocker funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
