WILLIE DANIEL RODGERS, SR.

SUFFOLK – Willie "Dee" Daniel Rodgers, Sr. of 408 Fulcher Street, Suffolk, entered into eternal rest and peace on June 21, 2008. A native of Suffolk, he was son of the late Isaac Rodgers, Sr. and Alethia Fields Rodgers and the widower of Queen Elizabeth Rodgers. He was also preceded in death by a son, Willie D. Rodgers, Jr.; a sister, Dollie A. Rodgers
He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and a veteran of the United States Navy where he received an Honorable discharge. He retired from the Supply Department of Little Creek Amphibious Base in 2002 after 35 years of service. He was a member of Tabernacle Christian Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three daughters, Alethia Chambliss (Michael), Elizabeth Smith (Nathaniel) of Suffolk, and Cynthia Ussery (Ollie) of Houston, TX; four sons, Charles Rodgers (Deborah), Minoso Rodgers, Michael Rodgers (Dorine), all of Suffolk, and Jerry Rodgers of New York; three sisters, Sylvia Gwaltney (Clifton) of Suffolk, Pearl Virginia Butts (Calvin) of Fayetteville, NC, and Vivian Simpkins of Suffolk; two brothers, Isaac Rodgers, Jr. (Christine) and Jerry Rodgers of Suffolk; 15 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Rodgers of Houston, TX; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Martha Mayo (Forest) and Mrs. Margaret K. Knight; godchildren, Lee Chambliss (Mary), Derrick Hill, and Daimion Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Tabernacle Christian Church, officiated by The Rev. Dr. Carlton Upton, Sr.. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 10:30 am. The family will be at 408 Fulcher Street. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
