WILLIE E. LEE 

 

SUFFOLK –– Willie E. Lee of 216 Woodrow Avenue, Suffolk, passed away July 10, 2008 at Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. A native of Gates, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Ernest and Hattie Goodman Lee, and the widower of Ira Rebecca Jones Lee.

Mr. Lee retired from Planters Peanut Company after 43 years of service. He was a member of Union Branch Baptist Church, Corapeake, North Carolina, where he was a deacon and President of the Usher Board. He was also a member of the Center Light Masonic Lodge #165.

His survivors include his son, Wayne Lee and his wife, Tonda Lee of East Orange, NJ; devoted friend, Ms. Mildred Roberts of Suffolk; goddaughter, Barbara Blount (Richard) of Suffolk; grandchildren, Lavon Lee Van Der Toorn (Jan Van Der Toorn) of Germany, Stacy Battles of New Jersey, and Tawan Battles (Tara) of Tennessee; great grandchildren, Jordan Van Der Toorn and Jaydon Van Der Toorn of Germany, Tyler Battles and Talen Battles of Tennessee; two sisters, Minnie Wiggins of Hampton and Catherine Ferror of New York; one brother, Frank Lee of Hampton; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. July 14, 2008 at Union Branch Baptist Church, Corapeake, NC, officiated by the Rev. Nathaniel Thomas. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A Wake will be held at Crocker Funeral Home from 5:00-6:00 pm Sunday.
