Herman Manley White

September 29, 1934 - January 9, 2023

Herman Manley White, 88, of Suffolk, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 9, 2023. He was a native of Nansemond County an dthe son of the late Edward White and Eva Butts White.

Mr. White served proudly in the United States Army; and was a member of the Sar of Sharon Lodge #231.

He was a faithful member of Antioch UCC and looked forward to attending every Sunday. Mr. White was employed by the Naval Base until he had an injury. He retired as a truck driver from GTL and found joy in driving trucks and buses.

When Mr. White was a young man his parents wanted him to become a Medical Doctor, so he enrolled in Norfolk State to pursue that career. While working he was given teh opportunity to drive a bus. He knew right away this was where his heart was and started working for several bus companies; to name a couple; Gallup which is now Ventura and Lassiter Bus Service. In 1961 he started H.M. Transportation Company, becoming the owner and operator of one of the premier black bus companies in the area.

Mr. White leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Ella "Peggy" Cloyd White; two stepsons, Eric Steven Cloyd and Jeffrey Clark Cloyd (Dee); four granddaughters, Markisha, Erica, Tiffani and Kayla; three great grandchildren, Zyrique, Kennedy and Karsyn; a faithful and dependable Godson, Eugene Goodman (Annette); faithful and devoted neighbor, Larry Almond "Lala" and a host of family and friends.

 A visitation with family will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2023 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. A celebration of life will be held noon, Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Antioch UCC. Pastor Jarvis Jones will deliver the message of comfort. He will be entombed in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
