James Allen Chapman, Jr., 74, of Suffolk, Virginia transitioned Saturday, October 1, 2022 at the age of 74. Mr. James A. Chapman, Jr., was born on 14 September 1948 to late James Chapman, sr. and Luella Chapman in Suffolk, VA. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his second parents, Lum and Novella Sanders; daughter, Tory Wesson and brother, Clarence White, Jr.
He was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School class of 67'. He attended Virginia State University for two years and went on to join the United States Army in 1969, serving a tour in Vietnam. James proudly worked a the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and retired from the Naval Supply Center/DLA. James was a dedicated member of Balm Church and served as a Deacon while also singing in the male choir. He loved fishing, working on his yard, dancing with Lytress, and spending time with his family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Francais Chapman of 24 years. He leaves to cherish his memory one brother, General Chapman; two sisters, Margaret Jones and Leslie Bynum; son, James Chapman, III (Monica); three daughters, Sabrina Cooks (Edward, Sr.), Donneisha Denard and Lytress Chapman; grandchildren, Tremiel Cooks (Sophia), Edward "Eddie" Cooks, Jr. (Andrea), Shaquille Cooks (Amanda), Tiana Cooks, Mychal Cooks (Lauren), Jeremy, Johnathan, Navaeh and Jasmine Wesson; great grandchildren, Aaliyah, Serenity, Evelyn, Shaquille Jr., Zaeveon, Imoni and Carter; granddogs, Esco and Grizzly; nephew, Lamont Langley; a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones.
A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Balm Church-East Campus. Bishop A. S. Hall, Sr. will deliver the message of comfort. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
